INCREASING THE EDUCATIONAL PIPELINE IN AN R1-HSI INSTITUTION
HSI in Practice
The Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies at UCSB has received $100,000 from the Andrew Mellon Foundation to incorporate undergraduates into the doctoral pipeline. In 2004, the Department inaugurated the first doctoral program in the country to award a doctoral degree in Chicana and Chicano Studies. Given UCSB's status as a preeminent R1-HSI, department undergraduates will be invited to the Departmental Colloquium series, which will be used to highlight the Department’s 50 _ year history, the origins and development of the doctoral program, and the successes experienced by the doctoral graduates. The Colloquium series will culminate in two separate conferences, one at the end of AY 2023-2024 and a second one at the end of the AY 2024-2025.
