Alexandra Eleazar is working on two primary projects. The first focuses on American and European expatriates, and the impact their migration has on Guatemala. Students will assist with cleaning and analyzing interview transcripts related to expatriates and digital nomads in Guatemala, and there will be opportunities to explore archival material. The second project examines public art activism in Guatemala immediately after the civil war. At this stage, the project is in the brainstorming phase and will involve literature review collection, creating history timelines, and organizing archival materials.
Required Skills: Spanish fluency is desired but not required.

Bio:

Alexandra Eleazar (they/she) is a PhD candidate specializing in migration, mobilities, gender and sexuality, race and ethnicity, Central America, and postcolonial feminist theory. Their dissertation investigates how digital labor economies and colonial legacies influence the relocation of privileged migrants to Guatemala. Alexandra's Master's research focused on LGBTQ+ migrants, examining identity formation, belonging, and transnational community ties. As a first-generation college student and former Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow, Alexandra holds a B.A. from Smith College, Massachusetts.
