Anastasia Quintana

Anastasia Quintana is a professional researcher at the University of California, Santa Barbara, specializing in the human dimensions of small-scale fisheries management and coastal conservation in Latin America and beyond. Her research investigates how fisherfolk collaborate to sustain fisheries and marine ecosystems amid challenges from international trade, capitalism, climate change, and regulatory inconsistencies. Working closely with fishers, their representatives, and nonprofit organizations, Anastasia employs mixed and interdisciplinary methods including interviews, ethnography, surveys, document analysis, and quantitative data analysis. An alumna of UCSB with a B.A. in CCS Biology (2014) and a Ph.D. in Marine Science and Conservation from Duke University (2020), she is always seeking motivated undergraduate and graduate research assistants. Outside of her research and teaching, Anastasia enjoys salsa dancing, eating burritos, cooking fish from Get Hooked, and playing beach volleyball.
