Andrea Carlini

Dr. Andrea S. Carlini holds a B.S. in Chemistry and Biological Sciences from Virginia Tech and completed her Ph.D. at the University of California, San Diego, with research on dynamic biosynthetic polymers for myocardial tissue engineering, supported by an NSF GRFP Fellowship under Prof. Nathan C. Gianneschi. She pursued postdoctoral research with Prof. John A. Rogers at the Querrey Simpson Institute for Bioelectronics. In 2022, she joined the faculty at UCSB as an Assistant Professor of (Bio)Materials in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. Dr. Carlini’s research focuses on developing structurally dynamic biomaterials and devices, with recent work highlighting the use of NITEC chemistry to create fluorescent probes, polymers, and hydrogels for sensing reactive oxygen species and monitoring material assembly.
